SSH provides a secure, encrypted
connection between you and a server. It is basically a secure replacement for telnet.
All traffic between you and that server, including
the exchange of passwords (or other authentication information) is encrypted. This
restriction is worth the inconvience of getting an SSH client due to the increased security
and safty it provides us and you.
If you run Linux or other UNIX like OS, you can compile and install the
source yourself from ftp://ftp.cs.hut.fi/pub/ssh/.
We are currently only supporting only SSH version 1.2.x. Some time in the future, we'll move to
the newer version.
Basically you have to:
1 Set you outgoing SMTP server to be your service provider's SMTP server.
2 Set your pop server to 'mail.[virtual_host]' where [virutal_host] is replaced
by your virtual host name ie. 'dikayl.com'. If you do not have a
virtual host but have an email account on mecworks, set your pop server to
'mail.mecworks.com'.
File Transfer Protocol. It allows one to add/remove files to/from a remote server. It is a standard
protocol and is shiped with almost every OS that ships a TCP/IP stack. Several FTP clients exist that
you can use to move files across the Internet. Win 95/98/NT should all have the 'ftp' command available.
You can also use graphical FTP clients such as 'wsftp' on windows platforms or 'fetch' on the Mac platforms.
These work well and make using FTP simple.
To FTP files to or from your account, FTP to either 'ftp.mecworks.com' or 'ftp.<your_virtual_host>.com',
(ie. ftp.dikayl.com) log in using your user name and password. Once logged in, you can proceed to
transfer files.
Make sure that you use binary mode to transfer any files other than text files, everything but text files
should be transfered as binary.
It really depends on my school schedual. Send me an email and I'll let you know of my availability.
School always comes first with me - at least I've been really trying to organize my life that way.
Samba (integration of Unix and Microsoft networks, Programming (C, C++, Java, Perl, Scheme, etc.),
TCP/IP Networking, Linux System Administration/Security, Japanese translation.
Yea, this isn't a business. I do consulting but I'm a student first, system administrator second,
consulting fills in the gaps (when they exist) and brings in a little extra income. This page is
used for consulting but that is not it's main focus.
It's a long story. Simply put, if you have something to sell me that I can get at a store near by, don't bother me.
If you have a "business idea" that will set my financial future on a path of never ending bliss, I don't beleive it
for one minute. If you have such a great plan, why don't you come straight out and say it's Amway instead of
beat around the bush for two hours waisting my time before you mention it once under your breath. In short you
leave me whith nothing but a greater distaste of MLM schemes and the comcept behind them. I always beleive that you
should work for what you receive as pay. The pyrimid scheme does not fit my work ethic. The world may go where it may
I don't care. In short, stay away.
