Ecommerce

I have a lot of experiece in working with e-commerce (3 years).  I have worked with a few different software packages for ecomm, and have even been involved in a hand-rolled solution written, of course, in perl.

Interchange
In all my experience, I feel the best offering for ecommerce is a software package called Interchage, by Akopia Inc.  Interchange is open source and written in perl and C.  It is very robust and very customizable.  It is meant for mid-size to large store fronts with several thousand products.  Akopia was recently acquired by Red Hat.

I have worked with Interchange for about a year and a half.  In that time I have made many test stores with it, and made several custom changes including XML intirgation for fullfillment.

At my last job, we used an earlier version of Interchange (known as Minivend) to create a web site for our IHSToday User's Home
Page client Inovative Health Solutions (aka IHSToday).

I was assigned as the lead programmer for this site working with two other programmers, their programmers, and a third party for the fullfillment. We went with CyberCash for the credit card transactions, which comes naturally for Interchange to work with. We also had many custome scripts that we wrote: interacting with the databases, site-wide search engine, and an administration back-end for controlling the entire site.
